Pink Saturday... Hope For A Cure

Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am simply posting a pink awareness ribbon... In honor of my dear friend taken too soon, in honor of my mom-in-law, a brave survivor, in honor of all who have been affected by this horrible disease.
I pray for the day that we will no longer need this pink ribbon. That our daughters (and sons)will no longer be threatened by breast cancer. I pray for a cure.
But until then, let the ribbon remind us of who we have lost, of the survivors, and of our own need to stay informed. Please do regular breast self exams and have mammograms done according to doctor's recommendations. Early detection is the best chance for a cure. Check out Web MD and Komen For a Cure for lots of useful information, and ways to get involved.

Apple Picking

We took a short roadtrip and spent the afternoon Saturday
apple picking at Soons Orchard in New Hampton, NY.
There are rows and rows of apple trees.

Apples ready for picking on each tree.

So many apples on the trees this year.

Take a look at the top branches! How do they stay upright?

We took this one home. Actually, we took 12 lbs. of apples home!

Some green apples too...

These are great for baking.

These are my favorite (below). Gala apples are the sweetest apples. Nature's candy growing on trees.

Now, off to bake a pie!!
:)

Happy Harvest!

Pink Saturday 9/26/09

Happy Pink Saturday!

Thank you Beverly for hosting this fun event each week. Check out Beverly's blog How Sweet the Sound for more pinkie posts!

I am so late posting this morning! I guess life happens! :)

My pink this Saturday is a chintz rose teapot. It is made by Lefton and it is musical. Wind up the bottom and it plays "Memories".

This was my introduction to teapot collecting. It was a gift from my husbands dear Nana when she was still with us. Hubby and I were engaged at the time. Nan had the most beautiful teapot and teacup collection. I was always admiring it. I just loved every pretty flower and every curve of here large collection. She gave this one to me as a birthday gift. I will treasure it always.

Wishing you a beautiful pink Saturday. Head on over to Rebecca Rose Designs . She has a wonderful blog. I know you will love it... I do !

Welcome Autumn

When the trees their summer splendor

Change to raiment red and gold,

When the summer moon turns mellow,

And the nights are getting cold;

When the squirrels hide their acorns,

And the woodchucks disappear,

then we know it is autumn,

loveliest season of the year.

~ Carol L.Riser, Autumn

It's the first day of Autumn. How exciting.
The leaves of some trees have just begun to change here in Northeast PA. We have a way to go until we reach "peak color" . It is such a beautiful time of the year. Nature picks up her paint brush and crimson, gold and orange are stroked along the mountain sides. Autumn brings apple picking, pumpkin picking, hot apple cider, jumping in big piles of just raked leaves, trick-or-treating, hay rides, harvest festivals and the most picturesque trail hikes.

My best wishes for a blessed Autumn to you and those you hold dear.

Pink Saturday & A Pink Giveaway

Happy Pink Saturday!

Thank you Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting this fun event each week!
It's been quite a while since I posted for Pink Saturday. But after a completely unexpected hospital stay and recuperating and then the crazy start of school, I am finally back into the swing of things. I actually had some time to paint and list a few items (well...2) on ebay. I just finished painting one of my pink signs that I leave blank for personalization.

I decided that it would be a giveaway for this Pink Saturday. This is my first giveaway of what I hope to be many more :)

This is a wooden sign painted soft pink. Pink roses were hand painted on top and bottom to frame your choice of personalization (name, or short phrase). It hangs by a soft pink seam binding ribbon. The sign measures approximately 14" by 9". Picture of sign is below, click on it for a closer view.

If you may be interested in winning this sign you could enter the as follows:

Leave a comment for this post for one entry. Follow this blog for one entry. If you both leave a comment and become a follower, you will be entered twice. If you mention the giveaway in a post of your own, let me know and that will count as an entry as well.

Drawing will be on Friday September 18th in the p.m. and posted Saturday September 19th in my Pink Saturday posting. Good Luck!

~ Have a wonderful weekend! Happy Pink Saturday! ~

In Remembrance

This is a date we will never forget. A time our country mourned the loss of so many of our own. It is also when we came together as a Nation to help each other, pick each other up and hold each other. In this spirit, Sept. 11th is now the National Day of Service and Remembrance. In honor of all who were lost we are called to remember them thru serving others. Click on this link Serve.gov to find opportunities in your area.

God bless all who were lost, God bless all who served, God bless the
United States of America.

Blessings,

New Items From Rose Brook Cottage

It's been some time since I have posted on my blog. Also a while since I listed on my ebay store Rose Brook Cottage.

Things have been a little crazy in our house with the start of school and all that comes along with it.

But, I am finally listing a few items this week , starting tonight.

This great vintage wood sewing box ( see pics below) is one of my new listings. I picked it up at an estate sale this summer. I always love redoing these old boxes. They can be used in so many ways. Of course as a sewing box, or a place to keep your vintage button collection, old photos or vintage postcards. Storage for ribbons , bows and barrettes for your sweet princess. Maybe use as a planter in a sewing room , library, or craft room... one of the top doors open and pretty ivy spilling out of the sewing box (plant must be in a separate pot so wood does not get wet). Fill with sample sized soaps and toiletries for your guest bath. With imagination, these great vintage sewing boxes can be used for so many purposes. Of course, it's pretty enough just for display too!

Have a beautiful day!

Pink Saturday

I'm a little late posting for Pink Saturday this morning. My computer is giving me a difficult time, so I am borrowing my son's.

Thank you Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday each week.
Pay Beverly a visit to see her pink post for today and to see a list of other bloggers participating in Pink Saturday.

For Pink Saturday this week I am sharing another of my teapots and a matching teacup and saucer. This one is Lefton Green Heritage. It has the prettiest pink roses. It is a bit fancier than most in my collection. This is my daughters favorite. For some reason I think it is going to be hers in years to come :)

Happy Pink Saturday!

Outdoor Wednesday

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

This is my first one! Thank you Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for hosting this fun weekly event. Head on over to Susan's blog to check out other friendly bloggers' outdoor posts.

I am so lucky to live near some of the most beautiful waterfalls.
For Outdoor Wednesday, I want to share one of the many.

This is Shohola Falls in Shohola, Pennsylvania.

Along Shohola Creek there are many cascades,

and steep ledges,

then the water rushes over a final set of falls into the river flatland.

The area and trail along this part of the falls is well wooded, abundant with wildlife
and wild flowers.

It takes my breath away.
And these little guys kinda love it too! :)

Have a beautiful day!

Pink Saturday Candy Shop

Happy Pink Saturday Friends!

Thank you to wonderful Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting every Saturday. It is alot of fun and I have really enjoyed "meeting" so many great people!

This Pink Saturday I am sharing a picture of the Candy Shop in my town. The exterior is a pretty pink, with soft green shutters, roof and steps.
It is called Irene's Kitchen. They have everything your sweet tooth desires and all things that put a huge grin on a little one's face!

They carry candies, chocolates, cookies, all sorts of nuts, homemade fudge of all flavors, even ice cream and sorbet (very dangerous place to enter). They also have candy and cake making supplies.

Have a Sweet Pink Saturday!

New Rose Cottage Pretties

Just wanted to share a few items I recently finished and will be listing real soon in my ebay store Rose Brook Cottage. Actually, the photo frame with the clay roses is already listed. I will be listing the rest this weekend.

I have not been listing as much lately. It's difficult to get things done when having so much summertime fun with the kids out of school. The summer flies and before you know it they are back in school :(
Just want to enjoy them while I can!

I will back in the swing of things real soon, and picking up on my listings.

Thanks for stopping to take a peek!

Hope your weekend is wonderful!
